Obituary for Dr. Elizabeth Spencer-Allen

Dr. Elizabeth Spencer-Allen died Monday, September 10, 2018, at Hospice Care Center, Hazard. She was 64 years old.
She will forever be remembered by her husband and best friend, Charles Everett Allen, their son, Charles Milton, her stepdaughter, Christy Ann Allen Watkins, her father, Chester W. Spencer, PhD, and her three sisters Margaret Spencer Schramm, Catherine Joy Spencer, and Hazel Spencer Scully. Elizabeth will also be fondly remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends, including her loving caretakers, Tammi Eddington, Stacy Dixon, and Patricia Cornett. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth House Spencer.
Dr. Spencer-Allen was a respected board-certified pediatrician who practiced in Hazard until she was stricken with breast cancer in 1993.Her greatest legacy is the many children she treated in her medical practice. She would want to be remembered most of all by those children whose lives she touched.
Elizabeth received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from Ohio State University and then her medical degree in 1978 from The Medical College of Virginia. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington before beginning her practice in Hazard. There, she met her husband Charles and became a loved member of the community.
Her family will always treasure the continual support of Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church, Hazard, and the loving care of the staff at Hospice Care Center, Hazard.

A visitation will be held at Maggard’s Mountainview Chapel, Thursday, September 13, at noon followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm, Pastor Glenn Cox officiating.
