Obituary for Cann Martin Dawahare

Cann Martin Dawahare, 88, passed away on Sunday, August 19.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Beverly (Smith) Dawahare, son Atta Dawahare, daughter Sybil Dawahare Montero, son in law Bruno Montero, and 5 adoring grandchildren- Elliana, Bruno Martin, Maysun, BellaMarie, and Juliet. His sister Mary Dawhare and his brother A.F. Dawahare mourn his loss, as well as many nieces and nephews and close friends.

He was born March 10, 1930 in Neon KY to Srur and Selma Dawahare. The family moved to Whitesburg when he was 5 years old. He lived there with his 10 brothers and sisters until the death of his mother when he was 9, at which point he attended Millersburg Military Institute. He considered Whitesburg his home, and also lived in Lexington many years. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and by his siblings Willie, Nellie, Woodrow, Harding, Oscar Dee, Sybil, Hoover, and Frank.
Martin was active duty in the Army, and served in the Korean War. He attended the University of Kentucky and was in the first class to receive a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He was the secretary/treasurer at Dawahares for over 40 years and worked alongside his brothers to grow a thriving business.

He was a member of South Elkhorn Baptist Church. He was active in the community though Rotary Club and other civic organizations in Whitesburg. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.

Visitation will be at South Elkhorn Baptist Church on Versailles Rd. in Lexington KY on Wednesday August 22, 2018 from 5-8 pm. Funeral service on Thursday August 23, 2018 at 11 am at South Elkhorn Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, KY.
